I’ve spent the better part of the last decade supporting students of all ages in developing their reading, writing, and researching skills. Empowering learners is my passion!
For the last four years, I taught literacy skills as a middle school Language Arts teacher in the Highline and Renton School Districts. Before that, I worked as a Studio Assistant and Coordinator at Western Washington University’s Hacherl Research and Writing Center. Here, I supported university students in their reading, writing, and researching work, and I trained others to do so as well. Both experiences gave me the opportunity to individualize instruction to a wide variety of students’ learning needs and interests
As a graduate from Western Washington University’s Honors Program, I majored in English Literature and minored in Spanish as well as Law, Diversity, & Justice; I graduated with a 3.9 GPA and was named WWU’s 2017-2018 Outstanding Graduate in English Literature. I also presented my senior thesis at the 2017 Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association conference in Honolulu. Then, I completed my Secondary Education teaching certification from the Woodring College of Education with a 4.0 GPA.
My philosophy of education is oriented around a strengths-based approach to learning and an emphasis on joy! I believe genuine growth happens in a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment.

I believe that people who don’t like to read just haven’t found the right book yet – and that’s the approach I take to tutoring. I love to help students find what they love to read, write, learn, and speak about.
After graduating summa cum laude (GPA 3.96) from Syracuse University with majors in philosophy and religion and a minor in political science, I graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School. Throughout my education, I have honed my writing and speaking skills through coursework and extracurricular activities. I am also an avid and passionate public speaker, which serves me as a litigation attorney where I appear in front of judges 3-4 days a week. I currently work with and represent youth ages 8-17. I love finding new ways to approach complex problems, and I believe in working as a team with parents and students to get the latter engaged and excited about learning.
My informal education has also shaped much of how I approach the world. In addition to expansive academic writing, I have worked hard to understand intergenerational communication and different writing styles, competed in Poetry Out Loud, a national competition that challenges students to memorize and perform famous poetry, and served on several organizations’ executive boards.
I love music and books, I have a dog named Yoda, and I cannot wait to hear what you love to do, because your passions and interests will fuel our sessions (and I will hopefully learn something myself along the way!).

I’ve devoted my career to teaching creative writers, readers, and thinkers of all ages because I’m passionate about the power of writing and reading. I believe in a student-centered approach to teaching that emphasizes discovery and experimentation as a means to grow confident in any area of study.
I earned an MFA in Poetry from the University of Washington, where I received the Harold Taylor Prize, and a PhD in English with a concentration in Creative Writing from Texas Tech University, where I earned the Helen DeVitt Jones Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award. Currently, I’m an Assistant Professor of English at Bethany College. I teach creative writing, literature, and composition courses that emphasize an interdisciplinary approach to writing.
After receiving my Bachelors in English from the University of North Texas, I worked as an adult education instructor, teaching ESL courses and GED prep. I’ve also worked as an instructor for the Institute for Reading Development, teaching students ranging from kindergarten to 10th grade in order to help them develop their writing skills and fall in love with reading. I have experience as an Associate Editor for Iron Horse Literary Review, and a poetry reader for the Seattle Review and the American Literary Review. My poems and essays have been published in over thirty nationally recognized journals, including Best New Poets, The Gettysburg Review, Gulf Coast, The Cincinnati Review, Blackbird, and The Los Angeles Review.
My favorite aspect of tutoring is the ability to tailor my teaching to every individual student’s needs in order to help them grow as writer, reader, and independent thinker. I look forward to learning with you!
