I’ve spent the better part of the last decade supporting students of all ages in developing their reading, writing, and researching skills. Empowering learners is my passion!
For the last four years, I taught literacy skills as a middle school Language Arts teacher in the Highline and Renton School Districts. Before that, I worked as a Studio Assistant and Coordinator at Western Washington University’s Hacherl Research and Writing Center. Here, I supported university students in their reading, writing, and researching work, and I trained others to do so as well. Both experiences gave me the opportunity to individualize instruction to a wide variety of students’ learning needs and interests
As a graduate from Western Washington University’s Honors Program, I majored in English Literature and minored in Spanish as well as Law, Diversity, & Justice; I graduated with a 3.9 GPA and was named WWU’s 2017-2018 Outstanding Graduate in English Literature. I also presented my senior thesis at the 2017 Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association conference in Honolulu. Then, I completed my Secondary Education teaching certification from the Woodring College of Education with a 4.0 GPA.
My philosophy of education is oriented around a strengths-based approach to learning and an emphasis on joy! I believe genuine growth happens in a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment.

I believe in working collaboratively with my students to break down any and all barriers standing in the way of their writing. Together, we invent individualized writing tools and strategies, build confidence in their voice and abilities, and try to have a little fun along the way.
I hail from Connecticut and hold a Bachelors of Arts in English, with a double minor in Women’s and Gender Studies and Philosophy, from Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU), and a Master’s of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Oregon State University. I am the recipient of the SCSU 2021 Chairperson’s Award for Outstanding English Major, the OSU 2023 and 2024 Creative Writing Award in Fiction, and served as the 2023-2024 Prose Editor for 45th Parallel Lit Mag.
I have seven collective years of tutoring and teaching experience. Throughout my undergraduate degree, I mentored high school students, peer-tutored, and worked as an administrative writing assistant. I student-taught a section of Shakespeare’s Tragedies at SCSU, and was teaching assistant for Classical Mythology and Undergraduate Publishing Practicum during my M.F.A at Oregon State University, where I also spent two years as an Instructor of Introduction to Composition Studies and Introduction to Fiction Writing. I look forward to continuing to bring my knowledge across writing disciplines and genres to my Write Seattle students.

I’ve devoted my career to teaching creative writers, readers, and thinkers of all ages because I’m passionate about the power of writing and reading. I believe in a student-centered approach to teaching that emphasizes discovery and experimentation as a means to grow confident in any area of study.
I earned an MFA in Poetry from the University of Washington, where I received the Harold Taylor Prize, and a PhD in English with a concentration in Creative Writing from Texas Tech University, where I earned the Helen DeVitt Jones Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award. Currently, I’m an Assistant Professor of English at Bethany College. I teach creative writing, literature, and composition courses that emphasize an interdisciplinary approach to writing.
After receiving my Bachelors in English from the University of North Texas, I worked as an adult education instructor, teaching ESL courses and GED prep. I’ve also worked as an instructor for the Institute for Reading Development, teaching students ranging from kindergarten to 10th grade in order to help them develop their writing skills and fall in love with reading. I have experience as an Associate Editor for Iron Horse Literary Review, and a poetry reader for the Seattle Review and the American Literary Review. My poems and essays have been published in over thirty nationally recognized journals, including Best New Poets, The Gettysburg Review, Gulf Coast, The Cincinnati Review, Blackbird, and The Los Angeles Review.
My favorite aspect of tutoring is the ability to tailor my teaching to every individual student’s needs in order to help them grow as writer, reader, and independent thinker. I look forward to learning with you!

Tutoring has been an enlightening aspect of my life for the past 4 years. I am inspired by the students that I work with and emphasize tutoring as a two-way street: one where both tutor and tutee leave the session having gained knowledge.
I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Puget Sound as a Communication Studies and Politics & Government double major. At UPS, I received the faculty-nominated Lora Bryning Scholarship, the Communication Studies Department's W. H. Baisinger Outstanding Graduate Award, and was on the Dean’s List for 7/8 semesters.
During my freshman year of college, I was hired as a writing advisor at my on-campus writing center. It was there that my passion for helping others and my love of engaging with intellectual material effortlessly blended for the first time. I quickly fell in love with the theory and praxis of tutoring and was engaged with the writing center up until my graduation. Alongside being a writing advisor, I was also hired to work on the university’s writing handbook. In this position, I researched and wrote several different writing-based chapters, such as an extensive piece detailing the assets, challenges, and experiences of multilingual writers. I was able to present my work on multilingual writers at the National Conference on Peer Tutoring in Writing (NCPTW) in the fall of 2022.
I believe that our identities deeply influence how we write. My goal is to help students from every background recognize their strengths and celebrate their unique storytelling abilities. I am eager to assist students with their growth and help them find (or hone) their distinct voice as a writer. I look forward to meeting with you!
