Dr. Evan
Dissertation Coach & Professional Writing Mentor

I am a researcher and writer based in Seattle who is passionate about working with students on writing. I am the author of two academic books and over 70 publications. I completed my Masters and PhD at the University of Oxford, England, where I also taught and worked with undergraduate, Masters, and PhD students for five years. Originally from Seattle, I was a Robinson Center Early Entrance college student at the University of Washington (UW), was trained in non-directive writing tutoring at the former UW English Department Writing Center, and co-founded the ongoing UW writing group WriteAway!.

I work with students to:

o   Apply for Master’s and PhD programs, including finalizing writing samples

o   Complete Masters and PhD theses and dissertations

o   Turn those Masters and PhD theses and dissertations into published academic articles and books

o   Develop and finalize research grants and project proposals

o   Bid for consultancies

o   Apply for jobs (academic and otherwise), including interviewing and public speaking support

I have now worked as a tutor for over 14 years. I hold a nationally-recognized higher education teaching qualification from the UK Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA), and a certificate from the University of Oxford’s Developing Learning and Teaching Programme. I also hold a Cambridge CELTA.

I believe writing is a special vehicle for communicating in and with the world, and that working on writing presents important opportunities for better understanding how we as individuals perceive, process, and share ourselves. I seek to work with students holistically based on a belief that helping students understand their own writing styles, strengths, and stresses is an important way to grow as writers and students.
